I\’m going into this with high expectations. Initial Reaction: a good start, but just doesn\’t get to where it should. Who Should Watch It : Anybody wanting a feature that isn\’t overly concerned with playing by the usual rules Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who wants consistency or who doesn\’t like subjects like drugs and violence mixed in with feature porn The Technical Stuff Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are slightly above average. The audio has a few background noises and although balance problems aren\’t rare, they aren\’t unusual. The sex videos is presented in the full frame format, and shows a few problems, The movie only has a touch of grain, which works for the movie, but the lighting varies throughout the movie with much of the sex being on the dark side. Music: The music is a mix of good and bad. During the non-sex portions, the music is very cool and fits the style of the movie extremely well while resting in the background nicely. It really helps with the atmosphere of the movie, and you could feel some nice care into it. During the the music goes completely generic. The change not only all the scenes down a notch or two, but held back the entire movie by giving it an inconsistent feel. If like the music, it can be downloaded in MP3 format from the Sex Z Pictures website (and thanks to Kevin over at Sex Z Pictures for pointing it out to me). False Advertising: Annie Cruz, Jack Lawrence, and Ron Jeremy are all listed on the cover right along with everybody else, which makes it look like they\’re all involved with the sex. Since Annie seems to have a following and Jack seems pretty reliable from the little I\’ve seen of him in action, I can see a few people being upset that they only have small non-sex roles. The same can be said about Christian XXX, as although he wasn\’t quite a non-sex performer he never really into the action either. With this many big names in non-sex roles being listed in with the sexual players deducting a half point from the overall score. Menus: The main menu is okay, and blends a cast photo with clips of the movie and a still photos for a feel that doesn\’t work too well for me. The chapter menu is also very generic, and lets choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene only. There\’s also a menu in the features that lets you choose where you want to go sexually in each scene. The Feature Kurt and Tee are vice cop who get their butts in a sling when a witness is killed that they were supposed to be hiding. They a few leads, but they also their own problems such as Kurt\’s family breaking up and his not seeming to be able to get enough coke. There\’s also big time drug dealer Ron Jeremy who\’s gunning for them his goon squad of Talon, Tommy Gunn, and Chrisian XXX. Scene 1 Marie Luv, Nyomi Marcella, Kurt Lockwood, Tee Reel, and Tyler Knight Things cut right to the action after Kurt and Tee show up at Tyler\’s pad with black Marie and Oriental Nyomi. As the black guys double stuff Marie cowgirl style, Kurt takes Nyomi in and reverse cowgirl. The story isn\’t bad, but there\’s enough cheese built in that there were quite a few times I found myself laughing at the movie when I don\’t think they weren\’t trying to be funny and the music was completely hit or miss. The sex often has pretty good chemistry, the camera work and editing holds it back by feeling inexperienced. There\’s a bit of noticeable camera in every scene and the editing is fairly choppy throughout the entire movie. Although it had plenty going for it, there was also plenty to hold L.A. Vice back from where it have gone. I wasn\’t expecting something like The Departed here for a story, but the story here makes some of the bad Miami Vice episodes look like The Usual Suspects while seeming like it\’s main goal was to show as many people as snorting coke rather than telling a cop story. I can\’t say that I have a problem with drug use in movie as it fits vice theme, but more often than not it felt forced into scenes. Yes, there\’s plenty of violence here well, but it\’s handled fairly artistically and fits into the story well. The artistic flashes rather than seeing blood a bit distracting for me, but at the same time it\’s quite easy to understand with some of the legal grey areas around porn. There were also plenty of loose threads that seemed to hang without reason, such as a subplot between Jack Lawrence and Nina Hartley which could have been wrapped up with just one or two lines. My final with the plot is that Kurt just wasn\’t too likable. He can often by a very charismatic performer, which also gave me hope with him doing a porn of Miami Vice, but here he came off as a fuckup more than anything. As the main character who\’s going into dangerous situations the viewer should feel something for his character, but I didn\’t care if he lived or died the movie went on. Just like with Miami Vice, the music is a major of L.A. Vice something that can make or break it. Sadly, the music is the main thing broke L.A. Vice me. It\’s obvious that Kurt Lockwood has a love of music, and after watching his Decline of Civilization Part 69: The Porno Years I couldn\’t help but have a lot of hope for L.A. Vice. There Kurt showed a great understanding of music and atmosphere while showing some very nice potential behind the camera, which have made him a natural here. He worked the very well in the non-sex sequences here, but sadly when it came to the sex it either disappears completely or went with some soft and generic porno that was a complete switch from the just moments before. he had kept the musical feel going throughout the entire movie, I think the atmosphere alone would have kept the movie flowing well enough that it would have been easy to look past some of the little problems with the story. L.A.Vice has a good and it gets a good start on it. The music shows potential and has some very nice atmosphere that helps the overall movie lot. The has some decent ideas, but rarely puts them to full use. The sex isn\’t bad, but also comes up feeling pretty average. L.A. Vice had a lot of potential, but there were so many inconsistencies running throughout every part of the movie that it me quite disappointed instead. I think it\’s great that Kurt Lockwood wants to do big adult feature films like this, but I also think he might have bit off more than he could here. can\’t help but think that L.A. Vice would have been a lot better if he had waited to get a little more experience the camera under his belt. The Extra Stuff Trailers are included for Corruption, Decline of Western Civilization Part 69: The Porno Years, America\’s Next Top Porn Model, Girl Talk, Memoirs of Mika Tan: Endings, and Desperate Wives 2. The photo gallery is broken down by the ten girls, as well as letting you know which girl you chose and allowing you choose between a glamour shot and a hardcore shot gallery (each of which consists of about ten very nice looking snapshots) when you make your choice. If having the entire movie soundtrack available on the DVD isn\’t enough, a music video for Here Come the Destruction from Kurt Lockwood\’s P.C.P (Porn City Punx) is also included, which works pretty well and doesn\’t limit itself to the band playing the song and clips from the movie. Sadly, that doesn\’t work as well as it might, as most of the footage here seems to come from Lockwood\’s Decline of Western Part 69: The Porno Years. There\’s also cumshot recaps, a behind scenes featurette, internet information, and ability to download movie to your I-pod. The behind the scenes featurette lasts nearly forty minutes. It moves around the set catching plenty of the fun between the performers along with a little extra action between Nicki Hunter Ron Jeremy in the bathroom. There\’s also a nice montage of shots before Nicki gets a little fluffing from Tee. Annie and Jack also get it on a bit after a few crack shots, and she also gives it up to Jeremy as he talks on the phone. Annie even lets him fuck her ass and a good taste of her ass. Finally there\’s a few more random around the set. This is a very entertaining behind the scenes featurette with nice sex shots mixed in. The technical aspects are pretty good there\’s some very nice effort put into the extras. This is a pretty good DVD. Note Sex Z Pictures: Although I can\’t say that the entire movie worked really well for me, it was nice see you trying something different and bigger. I hope you keep trying for something bigger like this, but I also hope you find somebody with experience to pull it off to its full potential.
